On behalf of your Harris County Republican Party, I would like to wish you and your family a happy and safe Memorial Day.

Let us take this day to honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom and liberty. Let us also give thanks for the members of our military who continue to stand in the breach in defense of this great nation and pray for their safe return to their families.

Here are a couple of events being held in Houston on Memorial Day that you may wish to attend:

Monday, May 31 - 9:30 am
Houston VA National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr.
Gov. Rick Perry will be the featured speaker at an event that also includes a flyover by the U.S. Coast Guard, a cannon salute, a horse procession, a rifle salute, the releasing of doves and parade of colors and wreaths.

Monday, May 31 - 2:00 pm
Bear Creek Pioneers Park, 3535 War Memorial Dr.
Names of local military personnel killed at war will be etched into a memorial wall. Local color guards will present the flags, and Pastor Larry Womack of Copperfield Baptist Church will offer prayers for the fallen.
