Justice Michael Massengale was appointed to the First Court of Appeals by Gov. Perry in June 2009. Before his appointment he was a partner at Baker Botts, specializing in commercial litigation. He formerly served as president of the Houston chapter of The Federalist Society and as
Chairman of Harris County Precinct 59.Justice Massengale attended Dartmouth College and The University of Texas School of Law. He graduated from law school with honors and was Book Review Editor of Texas Law Review. After law school, he clerked for Judge Harold R. DeMoss, Jr. of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
He is an Eagle Scout and a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Houston.
