Thank you for applying to become a Precinct Chairman. You are applying for a role that is vital to the continued growth and success of our party. As a Precinct Chairman, you are uniquely positioned to be the foremost representative of the Republican Party to voters in your neighborhood. You – the Precinct Chairman - need to become the political leader of your neighborhood.
The Harris County Republican Party has delegated to the Vacancy Committee the job of finding candidates for precinct chair of vacant precincts, and recommending them to the HCRP Executive Committee, typically at the quarterly meeting. After the Vacancy Committee has received your application, you will be interviewed by the Vacancy Committee and then voted on for recommendation to the Executive Committee. After the Executive Committee approves your nomination, you will immediately be the Precinct Chairman for your precinct and part of the Executive Committee.
As a leader of your County Party, you should make every effort to attend the quarterly Executive Committee Meetings. Your presence there is vital and counts towards a quorum enabling official business to be conducted. Every precinct won by Rick Perry in the 2010 gubernatorial election is eligible to have a Republican election judge in the 2012 general election. Precincts not won by Perry are entitled to have a Republican as alternate judge. It is required that you serve as judge or alternate judge of your precinct.
