I’d like to take a moment to recognize the work of the young professionals in Harris County that have done some great work this cycle. These groups are fostering political involvement and volunteerism and helping people connect with ways they can advance Republican ideas and causes.
MAVPAC members have shown the power of young professionals on the fundraising front as well as presenting an impressive annual conference. Led by George P. Bush and Jay Zeidman, MAVPAC has over 3500 members, 20 chapters across the country with regular events, and it has raised over $1.5 million dollars for candidates. The annual conference featured prominent Republicans like Sec. Michael Chertoff, Reince Priebus, and Carly Fiorina in addition to an all-star lineup of elected officials including Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, and Rebecca Kleefisch. Last month they hosted a successful fundraiser for Dan Patrick with Governor Rick Perry as headliner. Jay Zeidman also hosted a fundraising event that raised over $10,000 for U.S. Congressional candidate from New York Elise Stefanik.
MAVPAC member Stephen Cox co-founded the national Cotton Young Professionals team to fundraise for Tom Cotton’s bid for U.S. Senate in Arkansas. Houstonians Jay Zeidman, Marcella Burke, Reagan and George Fibbe, Clark Smith, and Eddie LaCour participated in this effort that raised $175,000 for Cotton in 6 months.
Also, the Houston Young Republicans have worked diligently to engage young conservatives in the Greater Houston area. Out of 114 dues-paying members, 21 are active HCRP precinct chairs and one is a Senate District Chairman. Several HYR members hold elected office, including State Representative Sarah Davis, Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel, and Family District Judge Alicia Franklin. Several other members are on the ballot, including Chris Carmona for State Representative District 148, Morad Fiki for State Representative District 137, and Ron Hale for State Senate District 15.
At the 2014 Texas Young Republican Federation convention in Dallas, the Houston Young Republicans won awards for: Best Large Club, Outreach Event of the Year (Charter School Application Day), Fundraising Event of the Year (Event with Tom DeLay), and Man of the Year (President, John Baucum).
Each Tuesday since July 29th, HYR has held 4-hour phone banking events. HYR has made over 17,000 phone calls on behalf of the Republican ticket.
Efforts like these are making a big difference in Harris County and helping Republican candidates win this cycle. Please join them by checking out opportunities to volunteer at HCRP on the website.
Let’s make every day count until Nov. 4!
