HOUSTON, June 19, 2019 – Harris County Republican Party Chair Paul Simpson released the following statement on the 86th Legislative Session:
"Our most recently completed legislative session was monumental. Working together, our Texas House and Senate built on the principles of safety and security, education, economic advancement, and the preservation of liberty. As a result, Governor Abbott just signed 927 bills into law giving Texas more freedom.
"Our Harris County Republican Legislators led the fight to forge an even broader path to prosperity for Texas families this session. Through their efforts during the 86th Legislature, we now have conservative laws that will reform 'Robin Hood' keeping more of our tax dollars in the classroom, reduce the property tax burden for Texas families while limiting future increases and demanding more transparency for all taxpayers, reform the child protective system, invest in early and higher education, reign in regulatory regimes that strangle innovation, and ensure that we protect the basic dignity of our unborn children.
"These are the conservative values that we hold dear in Texas. This is the reason we sent them to Austin to fight on our behalf.
"Join me in applauding our Harris County Republican Legislators and Speaker Dennis Bonnen for a job well done this session. We look forward to their continued leadership as we fight to preserve the principles that make Texas the greatest state in the nation."
