Joint Statement From Harris County Republican Party Chairman Paul Simpson and Vice Chair Dr. Dana Myers
HOUSTON, March 23, 2020 – Harris County Republican Party Chairman Paul Simpson and Vice Chair Dr. Dana Myers sent the following statement regarding the steps we're taking to respond to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
On behalf of everyone at the Harris County Republican Party, our hearts go out to all those impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) – including those diagnosed with the virus, their families and loved ones, those whose jobs and schools have been impacted, and our brave healthcare and other essential workers who continue to care for our communities in the face of this unprecedented crisis.
The health and safety of our staff, volunteers and communities are our top priority. That's why we have made the decision to keep the Harris County Republican Party Headquarters and additional offices temporarily closed to the public. The situation is evolving quickly, and HCRP will continue to make informed decisions that align with our mission and policies, while following guidance from our public health and government officials, and doing our part in slowing the spread of the virus.
Our staff is working remotely and virtually to assist you. They are prepared to work with our dedicated Committee Chairmen, Officers and volunteers to provide safe solutions and resources for holding essential meetings and activities via video and phone conferencing. Please leave a message at 713-838-7900 or contact us via email if you have any questions or need assistance.
We also want to show our appreciation for our Harris County Senate District leaders for their ongoing support and commitment to the Party. This past Saturday, seven Senate Districts successfully reconvened their Conventions for a future date. Additionally, Senate District 6 held a successful and safe Convention outside its venue, and is sending resolutions and delegates to the State.
Looking forward, the Republican Party of Texas has announced it will likely move the Republican State Convention to July 13 -18, 2020 pending State Republican Executive Committee approval. Additionally, Governor Greg Abbott recently postponed the Runoff Primary Election until July 14, 2020. We will continue to communicate via e-blast, social media, and our website as information becomes available.
Finally, we want to personally thank each of you for your continued support and understanding in the face of this unprecedented challenge. Please continue to pray for the strength of our Governor, our President, and all of our leaders and first responders as they work tirelessly to keep us safe and healthy.
