HOUSTON – In light of Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee’s resignation to run for Congress in District 18, the Harris County GOP urges Commissioners Court to appoint Jacqueline Lucci Smith as County Attorney to serve the remainder of the term.
Last November, Jacqueline Lucci Smith narrowly lost the County Attorney race, earning over 49% of the vote. With Menefee now abandoning his office just three months into the term, it is the duty of Commissioners Court to respect the will of the more than 700,000 Harris County voters who cast their vote for Lucci Smith by appointing her to the position rather than arbitrarily selecting an appointee of their choosing who has not been vetted by voters.
Lucci Smith is highly qualified to serve as County Attorney, she has worked as legislative counsel and previously held roles as a Civil Court Judge and Assistant County Attorney. Her experience and dedication make her the right choice to step in and fulfill this important role.
