Let Freedom Ring!

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

In 1776, fifty-six men representing the thirteen colonies of the Second Constitutional Congress signed their names on the Declaration of Independence. They knew that with their signatures, they were risking not only their lives, but the lives and prosperity of their wives and children.

It has always amazed me the courage that the men and women had who fought for our country’s independence. Farmers, laborers, craftsmen, small business owners, and men from all walks of life left their homes and loved ones to fight the British Army because they believed fighting for liberty was worth the risk of their lives and property. Wives, like Abigail Adams, Deborah Read (Ben Franklin’s common law wife) and Martha Washington took over running the family businesses and farms, not knowing if they would be widowed and impoverished by the time the fight was over.

It had to have felt overwhelming. But our American forefathers and mothers did not give up. Since that time, American men and women have fought for our country to preserve the gift of liberty and freedom we were given in 1776.

Fast forward to 2021… Today we have leftist progressives saying we should be ashamed of America. We have teachers and education administrators teaching our children that America is inherently racist.  We have Democrats elected to some of the highest offices in our country comparing America to terrorists and the Taliban. We have athletes who have had the freedom and opportunity to pursue their dream only to turn their back on the American flag at the highlight of their success. We have a liberal press stating that a commitment to have secure and fair elections for all is a return of Jim Crow. Today we have forces attempting to tear our country down from within and destroy the liberty and freedom that 56 men risked their lives for that hot, muggy July day in Philadelphia.

Today as we start the 4th of July holiday weekend, remember what our forefathers and mothers risked for us in 1776. Although we are not on the battlefield of Valley Forge, the fight to preserve our freedom and liberty continues today. Now it is our turn to stand up and fight for America!
